Featured Mineral Masterpiece
Emperor and Empress  Amethyst, Brazil

This well matched pair of amethyst geodes was originally one whole geode. It was artfully split in half with a giant diamond blade and the edges surface polished.  Amethyst geodes are rarely as evenly matched as one side usually breaks or is considerably smaller than the other.  The color is very regal and dark and the crystals are well formed and large. This pair is completely natural on the outside which is a rarity by today’s standards. Almost all of the geodes from Brazil are painted on the outside to hide the repair to the cracks that either are a result of the intense pressure from its formation or from the mining process. Before the geode is painted there is often a layer of cement added to insure structural stability and also to boost the weight and subsequently the price.  As we specialize in selling natural, untreated materials, we turn down most amethyst geodes from Brazil. This pair is so exemplary, so unique for their quality and perfection; the miner has repeatedly offered to purchase them back from us.
